I'm not going to Disney any time soon. More like 11 months from now but figured I start the long term planning of various item like do we fly or drive, where do we stay, etc.. It will be the first trip for my 3.5 and 1 year old. By the time we get there they will be 4.something and 1.95 =)

    Thanks

My understanding is that it's not actually illegal, but you will be ejected if it's discovered. In your first link, the operative point is:

Richardson doesn't have a permit to carry the gun

Which is why she was arrested.

I have heard that they check bags but don't have metal detectors and don't do pat-downs or body searches.

There are going to be a few things to look at and all will need verified with specific sources(Disney, TSA, Airline, etc)

Florida will recognize your Indiana Permit as long as you are a resident of Indiana and it is a resident permit.

Last I new you were not alloud to carry on Disney property. At least that is what I gathered a few months ago when there were employees upset that they could not even leave the gun in their car.

As for going into Illinois. Especially Chicago, you must have gun unloaded and locked in a separate part of the car. For flying it is up to TSA and the airline. As of a few weeks ago you could have a handgun in your checked bag. The airlines sight should outline what you can/cannot do. Typically it must be unloaded in a locked container where only you have the key. Ammo usually has to be seperate and some airlines required it to be locked as well. When you check in, do not use curb-side check in. Go to the ticket counter and allow for extra time.

Tell the agen that you need to declair a firearm in your bag. DO NOT SAY, "HEY I GOTA GUN" That would not go over well.

Usually they will get a supervisor who will ask you to show him it is unloaded. They will tag it, zip your bag up and give you instructions.

Like I said, all info will need verified at time of travel to be sure nothing has changed.

Tearful Grandmother Apologizes For Disney Gun Incident
No Guns for Police Officers at Disney World

short answer no guns at Disney park by anyone police or civilians!!!
Yep, they even vehemently opposed the "take your gun to work law" that allowed CWP holders to leave their guns secured in their cars while at work. They claimed an exemption to the law because under the one for companies "that manufacture, use, store or transport explosives" because of the fireworks shows. Sucks, but that's The Mouse for ya . . .

Also, something to think about everywhere not just on Disney property.

Now I would never tell you to break any rules or laws.

You obviously are concerned about your families safety (As after person should be)

You know that "gun free zones" are often high crime areas.

You have a weapon and know how to use it (had to say it)

If you are are CC in an area where you are not supposed to, you will only draw in a life or death situation.

Question to ask...is you serving time for a firearm violation worth the life of your son/daughter/spouse? I know my answer...:patriot:

    CCRKBA :: CCW Reciprocity Guide
Florida and most of the Southern states recognize our cary permit so If you were driving it seems that would be pretty simple. But for flying I would talk to the airline ahead of time to see if it can be done, especially when flying out of the Republik Of Shitchago since they don't even allow their own citizens to own pistols.

FACTS: Indiana Lifetime Handgun Carry Permit Holder

    SITUATION:
    1) Can I carry my handgun in FL with my IN permit?
Yes. Be aware that Florida is CONCEALED ONLY. Printing is ok, but if any part of the firearm shows, you can get fined and/or the weapon confiscated.
    2) Can I carry my handgun on the Disney park/resort/property
Disney Parks (and I assume resorts, never stayed on site before) are posted "No weapons" and listed to include knives, guns, ect. ect.

Florida is like Indiana in which this sign holds no force of law. You cannot be criminally prosecuted for carrying onto disney property (unless you are breaking Florida Laws obviously). They can (and will) demand you leave. You will be charged if you refuse to leave. Be advised that they most likely will ask for your ticket. They cannot force you to give it back and if you do hand it over they will flag your name and cancel your other tickets. This means you probably will be out the cash for those tickets as well. YMMV obviously.

    3) Flying out of Chicago or Midway is it OK to travel to airport from IN with the handgun to get on the plane at the airport?
I have friends who fly out of midway and ohare with handguns, AR's the works. Pack you pistol in the container you are using to transport it on the aircraft before you cross into ILL. Under the "peaceable journey" laws you cannot be prosecuted if you follow those procedures.

I lived in Florida for the 23 years. Carried into all the parks.

If you plan on riding rides:
1- make sure you have a SECURE rig
2- even if you only ride "small world" you need to have something that allows DEEP cover. Pirates of the caribean, small world... they are on boats, getting in and out will give away all but the deepest discrete carry rigs.
3- carry on your person. They will look (mostly haphazardly) in all bags or fanny packs brought onto property. Having 2 young ones, you could have a gun right on top and they'd probably miss it, but you never know when some new guy has his supervisor standing over his shoulder.
4- make sure you have a SECURE RIG. Lots of these rides (kiddie rides alike) have bucket seats that EAT anything you have in your pockets. Pocket carry isn't recommended.

I recommend the smart carry / invisicarry. Honestly it's the only way to go... maybe a good belly band, but I don't use those.

If you get caught, you loose your money for the ticket at least. You cough up ID or tickets and they can nix your entire stay. They just nix the day and how much are you out? Your kids having to leave? Not fun.

When I carried I was single or with my wife before we had kids. I was a Florida resident and not staying on property...

We are probably going to Disney in the next 2 months (buy 4 nights and days get 3 free). We will drive, so we'll be armed. I'm not so sure I want to risk 2 grand to carry a gun to (arguably) the safest place in the country. My girls are 2 and 4 now... I don't want to explain to them how daddy made a bone headed move and his gun fell out while exiting the people mover, lol.

One more thought on showing ID after being caught. Disney has it's own police force in addition to the hundreds of security guards on duty at any given time. If disney POLICE ask for you ID you will have to show it because in Florida you must produce ID when carrying a weapon to any LEO during such encounter. Basically do NOT get caught.. unless it's your last day and your leaving anyway ;)

Disney is nothing like great america or any other theme park in the country. Incidents are rare and their security and response protocols are second to none. They have their own SWAT team on site as well. You won't find any gangs or anything else hanging out around the enterances or anything else.

Be aware that outside of disney property, greater orlando has some crime issues. Nothing different than what you'd face in Indy, but just be as cautious as if you were in Indy.

Nope, a standard Swiss Army Knife.. other than not letting me in, they were fairly cool about it, letting me "check" it at the customer service counter and picking it up on my way out..

I think this was the main gate at the Magic Kingdom, if memory serves correctly.. I brought the same knife into Epcot and MGM with no issue whatsoever. It looked like the wandings were random, so something could have "set them off", so to speak, but I honestly don't know what it would have been. I feel that I'm a pretty average guy, with no distinguishing marks to profile..

Bizarre. Thanks for the reply. Last time I went I had a shaved head and polo shirt. Never been wanded or even seen it happen. Of course I haven't been in at least 5 years so who knows.

    Thanks for the info!

I was at Disney last month with my family. I carried a a benchmade ambush (10220) with me in the parks. It is a BIG knife. Seven days total. ONE of the days an older female security guard saw my clip. She asked to see my knife. You should have seen the faces of the old ladies around me that heard that! Anyway, she was very friendly, palmed the knife and called for someone to escort me. I had my three children with me. A nice fella escorted me to the lockers out front and watched me place the knife inside. I was actually shocked at how nice he was. Asked how our vacation was going, etc. You could totally CC inside the park. Just don't bring in any bags and keep it on your person. Oh, yeah, make sure you have .50 cents on you in case they see your knife/CCW.

Btw, the Disney security are not armed but I saw at least one FL Sheriff at each entrance and they were armed.

Two tiers of disney security. Armed and Unarmed. The ones wandering the parks are virtually all unarmed. Occasionally you will see an armed uniformed guard, but you've got to be quick to spy them as they duck in and out of service access areas. Disney does it's best to have zero weapons visible in the park by anyone.

I was there years ago for a High School Band Trip, and there are definitely armed park personnel behind the walls.. it's easy to forget as you wander around the park that there are parts that are off limits to you. It feels like you're just walking around like you would in a city, but there are ways to access just about every point in the park without being out in the "public" area..

    yes

you can carry in FL as long as you have a resident's permit from IN. carrying in Disney World is another story all together. it is a private business. and i'm sure they clearly state at the entrance they don't allow firearms. that being said i think the worst that could happen is they throw you out if they find out you're packing.

Correct. Florida is like Indiana in that the "no guns" signs hold no legal authority under the law. Refuse to leave (and like IN) you can get hit for criminal trespass, but that is only after you have been verbally told to leave and still refuse.

Technically in Florida if you refuse to leave and the cops come, worse they can do is write you a no trespass warning. They must then wait until you violate the written notice before they can arrest you. Push it that far however and the written no trespass is valid for 180 days so you can nix any future visits for 6 months.

The plan was to stay that the resort while visiting the parks. Looking at my 1911 it looks so "BIG" when I look at it so may opt to get something much smaller (if anything) before the trip...

My daughter is at Disney this week and I asked her to check the Magic Kingdom. She said that they were checking bags, purses and packages but did not see anyone being physically searched or wanded.
