The list begins and ends for me with the Browning Auto 5.

    JMB was the master.

A5 has to be in the top 3.

Any list that doesn't have an A5 in it is from someone completely ignorant of the history of the semiautomatic shotgun. Not trying to rude, it's just the truth.

The A5 was also JMB most prized design and he said it was his "best achievement".

The OP didn't say most significant or I would agree but if you set a 1100 in it's prime or an A5 in it's prime infront of me and asked me which I would like to shoot for the day I would reach for the 1100

I don't care if it has been done already, let's see what you think the top 5 shotguns of all time.

    1. Winchester Model 12
    2. Winchester Model 1897
    3. Browning A5
    4. Remington 870
    5. Mossberg 500

These are my picks would like to see some others input.

Mossberg lost all respect in my book with them making an AR-15 in a saturated market, and that Mossberg Chainsaw. I mean really.... :twocents:

    1) Lenderhaux's break-action shotgun - This one gained #1 status on my list just because of the ammunition development that came with it

    2) Browning A5 - ... it is the A5... enough said...

    3) Winchester Model 1893 - Pump action... yay!

    4) Winchester M1887 - Earliest successful repeating shotgun design... at least that I know of...

    5) Blunderbuss - Barrel length effects patterning?! Oh, the possibilities...
