I'd take it over kerosene and a Bic.
Depends on the situation.
I'd take it over kerosene and a Bic.
Had a Sub2000 and tried to like it. The line of sight was so low on the carbine that the sights were difficult to use. Then I started seeing pictures of broken hing points on the KelTec forum. No thanks and I sold it.I know its rare, but what other carbine is known to fail on its plastic hinge point, rendering the gun unusable and I think unrepairable because the receiver is now destroyed? No thanks.
Had a Hi-Point 9mm carbine for a while. It was in the original Planet of the Apes stock. Was ugly but accurate and reliable. Added a red dot, sling and buttstock mag pouch to carry two extra mags. What no love for the Hi-Point 9mm carbine?
Since I sold out of the .223 AR scene last year, I have been thinking (and working on) getting back into the game a little. I have acquired a lower with FCG, stock and buffer tube. I am thinking that it would be cool to have an AR pattern rifle in 9 MM.
Would I be okay to assemble an upper in 9 MM for what I have or should I look at purchasing a complete PCC and save the parts I have in case I want a .223 build?
Money is a concern so I'd like to do this as economically as I can but still have a solid, reliable firearm. I don't want cheap, less than high quality parts, I just don't want to spend unnecessarily.
I also think I'd like to stay with AR pattern. This will be used for fun at the range at a lower cost than .223 and for training.
Maybe home defense.
Oh, and I am comfortable with building my own. I have built many AR's over the years.
One of the magwell adaptors can use M&P mags which is what I shoot. The only advise I would give is...
Pick a mag well adaptor that will accept mags from your favorite sidearm.
The military would occasionally issue us 9mm sidearms and 9mm subguns...
Two different kinds of mags in the same caliber didn't make sense to us...
But then again, we were the ones that had to pack the weight around without interchangeability.
I had an AR pistol in 9mm with a mag adapter. It used M&P mags and I believe could also use Sig P320 mags. It ran very well with both ETS hi-cap mags and standard factory 17 round mags. I ended up selling it cause I am just not an AR guy and had options. One of the magwell adaptors can use M&P mags which is what I shoot.
But all the others ones I have looked at either us Colt SMG or Glock mags. So it appears I may have to buy different mags if I want to run one.
Other than having to purchase more mags, being different doesn't matter to me.
For that price their uppers usually come with their BCG included. I will repeat what has been mentioned and I would go with a dedicated 9mm lower. For at or under $700 you can get a complete Foxtrot Mike 9mm gun. I have one and it is a beast!Have come across Foxtrot Mike. They have a complete upper for $479. I would add a BCG, buffer and FM's recommended Sylvan Arms conversion block. That would get me all in for less than $700 depending on what I buy for a BCG and buffer.
I'd just need to buy mags.
Does that kind of money seem high, low, reasonable?
And is FM good stuff?
If they came to eat my brains, they would go away hungry! For $800 you can pick up a Ruger PC Carbine and a red dot. Load up on some 31 round ETS Glock mags at $20 each. Gun will run fine.
If I had to keep only one and the choice was between a conventional carbine in .223 or a PPC, I would choose the PCC. Just more opportunity to shoot the gun. If the zombies come to eat my brains I will deal with that later.
I've been thinking about getting the 10mm hi point carbine. I just can't make myself pull the trigger so to speak.Had a Hi-Point 9mm carbine for a while. It was in the original Planet of the Apes stock. Was ugly but accurate and reliable. Added a red dot, sling and buttstock mag pouch to carry two extra mags.
Gave it to a friend who did not have the funds for a defensive long gun. Made a couple of trips to the range and put five hundred rounds through it. He was smart in that he stocked up on ammo before it went full retard. Being able to use the same ammo in his rifle and S&W Shield is a plus.
Any reason for the Brigade Mfrg. over the FX-9?Another vote for the Freedom Ordnance FX-9. I have the 8" pistol and love it. No issues at all, even with 147 gr. HST. I am thinking of picking up a 2nd FX-9 or a Foxtrot Mike or maybe a Brigade Manufacturing for the wifey.
Why not just go with a .22lr then? The Ruger looks like it would be a good rifle, but my original intent was to train with something that was as close to my AR as possible. I was looking at this endeavor as a way to shoot my AR without the cost of .223 ammunition.
Happy to muddy the waters.I guess I could but I was thinking I could tailor reloads to the rifle, have a little more recoil. I guess now my overthinking mind will have to take a look at that option. Thanks a lot KLB,lol!
So, is the model with the red dot less than the one with the folding sights? Am I reading it correctly?M&P 15-22 | Smith & Wesson
