The prices being charged are coming from the healthcare provider. It has everything to do with them (or the people running their company). Why should a healthcare provider charge $1,000 to someone without insurance, but only $100 if you have insurance? What if your electric company did this? :dunno:
Actually I've seen the opposite. They bill the insurance companies at a much higher rate than if you pay cash without insurance. You don't pay what the insurance company is billed for of course (that's what the insurance is for). But yeah, it's a racket at any rate.

That is interesting, and quite frankly something I have never seen. What I *have* seen are bills with outrageous "retail" costs then grossly marked down due to insurance coverage. My assumption has been that since hospitals cannot refuse to treat someone based on their inability to pay, they use the inflated "retail" cost of their services to write off their lost revenue.

But, yeah, it is a racket.

If someone is willing to write a check for their bill, they should get a discount, since there are no forms for the provider to submit and then wait for payment.

A good example is radiology - MRI's, CT scans, X-rays. You can shop around for places that only do those things, as opposed to having them done in a hospital and the price difference is really eye-opening. I think @Cameramonkey has posted something about it in the past IIRC.

I would like to believe this, but polling data indicates that a large portion of the population is totally onboard with the Democrats' lies, distortions and manipulations. About half the population loves Big Brother and is willing to go along with whatever is required of them. While I don't like it, that is the reality.
Someday, when the "Jack Boot" comes down on the throats of the useful idiots, as well as us that feel this is coming, then they will see...and crap their pants. I read a saying once, but don't remember who said it. "The problem with Socialism/Communism, is that you can vote your way into it, but have to fight your way out of it". Yeah, makes sense to some of us that actually read history.
