Glad you got it taken care of. I had my furnace and water heater both go out one day a part last year.

Mine is a gas water heater. I installed the high efficient type with the baffle that closes the exhaust when the burner shuts off to help contain the heat in the tank. Happy so far but I haven't lost electricity yet that will kill the unit since it also has an electronic pilot light that lights every time it calls for heat.

I will be firing up the generator if the electricity go out anyway.

I stayed with the standard controlled unit just for this reason.
If we have gas we have hot water.
I looked at a tankless but just can not justify the extra expense.
