Like I said in my edit, on rare occasions it actually is beneficial. Seriously. Most of the time, however, it's just owners being selfish. I've never had one of my dogs' tails docked. I think it's wrong (except in the above situation).

I grew up down there on the side of a mountain somewhere outside of Maryville. I miss it a lot.
