I sent him a long PM, basically telling him to move on if he doesn't like a post instead of neg repping people that don't have the same views.

But isn't that exactly what rep (positive or negative) is for?

And I believe that is fairly typical. But because of this, negative rep carries with it a MUCH more serious overtone.

At the end of the day its just a simple "Agree/Disagree" button.
