No, I've never heard of it being used like that before. I have one I tried to use on my Border Collie and she didn't even act like she heard it. So it's not something that bring discomfort to the dog. I'm not an expert so you might want to confirm this with someone else.

I read that not all breeds of dogs react to the same frequencies so maybe your dog couldn't hear the frequency of your whistle but other breeds can.
Also not all whistles have the same frenquency even is they are all ultrasonic.

Don't know if they are legal there, but one of those small stun guns (about the size of a cigarette pack) works well. I have used that to scare dogs away while walking with the wife.

I don't hit the dog, just hit the button and the snapping sound scared them. Won't say it will always work, but the wife usually carries one anyway.

    Finally an adult! :D

I was wondering about ultrasonic dog whistles.
I saw that at the pet store today, I understand that it's to train dogs and such but im wondering what it does to the dog.
Like can it be used as a friendly way to keep angry dogs away from you as well? :dunno:
Instead of using pepper spray or a bullet.

Yeah I know there are stuff like that to keep dogs away, I wonder if ultrasonic whistles do the same thing.
A whistle is tiny and I thought I could keep one on my keychain for protection against dogs.

No the whistles you talk of are for calling or training reinforcement! they will not ward off dogs! :D

I can't remember the last time I was in the house, and cleaned up at this time of night. And I just had to walk put to the shop in my pj's and a towel on my head. :n00b:
