for someone who has never touched our handled a gun in their life it is a good primer on what not to do. But nothing beyond that.

I would say a basic handgun class then, not specifically the NRA one. I'd rather take a basic handgun class from a defensive school or a competition school and NOT the NRA. I'm sure you're paying for the fact its an "NRA" course and you'll pry get more out of your training dollars somewhere else.

only one way to find out if they would not like you shooting a piece of in the back yard is to try it and find out.

hence the follow up that said you could interchange it with ACT's basic pistol class.

Or any other good training schools basic pistol class. I just use the NRA class because it is the most recognizable name. Kind of like the wal-mart of the gun world.
