or you could just wear a glove.:D

Rail covers also protect the rails from damage. Getting a rail slot too dinged up means you can no longer fit accessories properly.

I run XTms and I put ladder covers wherever they are not.

    I still need rail covers!

I prefer covers that are modular or can be cut to fit.

Magpul XT covers can be cut to fit and don't look like they've been cut. They have a nice texture. Unfortunately they can be torn off if a corner is caught on anything.

Magpul XTm covers lock nicely into place, and they are small so you can configure them around the accessories already installed on your rail.

Ladder rails are very low-profile, but they don't provide much protection from heat as the round count increases. Like I said above, I put those on non-essential places to keep my rail slots from being damaged.

The ones from TangoDown or Troy or Knight's are nice, but they are impossible to cut down to size.

ok guys. need some opinions. I am thinking about carrying P22 in an ankle hoslter as my EDC. why, it's light weight, small, and quiet.

I am thinking more people are killed with .22 caliber guns than any other caliber. 2, heaven forbid you have to use it, it will be advantageous to be able to hear the officer talking to you after you have used it in self defense. plus practice with what you carry is cheaper to do.

what say you group? :dunno: It's just an idea I am toying with.

So gear snobs, are all ladder rail covers the same or is there a go-to brand for them?

I've used Magpul, Ergo, and Daniel Defense.

The DD ones were made by Ergo.

They are all pretty much the same.

The Surefire brand, however, does have a slightly different design.

Is that pic the Surefire ones? I have seen the steps on top of the rail pieces and in between. Which is the right way?

    Actually check that.

Dad once bought some in a pack at a gun show that were really inexpensive. When we got them home we realized they were made from really soft rubber and wouldn't stay on a rail. They were a joke.

    Stick with santoprene.

I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. The ladder rails fit inside the actual rail slots. So anywhere there is a slot, there is a ladder "rung".
