All the fuss about these storms make you think how our ancestors handled this. In the late 1800's and early 1900's they didn't have power to lose and had to keep their horses and cattle warm and protected along with their homes.
We worry about losing some power for our television and the internet

I'm not saying I couldn't go without... just saying our lives are a lot more dependent on electricity these days which is why some freak out.
