That probably warmed you up right there...

    Yes it did.
I had Kindling split and set in its place for the morning restart on the stove.
We do not always hit the marks to keep it rolling at night. Takes 2 times at least to keep it up to temp.
If we miss it will be out but the room is still above stat setting so the furnace doesnt cycle.
Last night the spouse used up the kindling to re-fire it off the coal bed. She did not need to use it all but hey, she hit her mark. I missed mine.......

That's what my Dad always said when us boys had to cut wood as teens.....

As soon as the last of us 5 boys moved out, he switched to propane heat....

    Smart man.

Spouse is totally spoiled on the warmth from that stove.
She is cold blooded so I will be splitting wood till I am done.....:):

My Dad finally ditched the Propane and went with a self feeding corn stove....The farmer who rents the land up there leaves him a hopper full in one of the empty grain bins on dad's property. He really does have free heat.

Grandpa always heated with coal, it seemed more efficient than wood. Too bad you can't get it easy and cheap up here.
