Had one go by south of the house in the 90s, watched it approach, you're right they make an awful noise. The ripping roaring, sort of like a vacuum coater running at really high volume.

A huge one went just a 1/4 mile north of the farmhouse I grew up in during the Black Friday tornados of 75 or 76??

That is a sound I never want to hear again..

I guess it was 1974...

I closed the garage doors once. We got more rain here than I've ever seen in 10 years. I've got one of those huge city trash cans, and it started to float away.

I've heard of people eating puffballs, but have never tried them. We eat mostly morel and chanterelle mushrooms.

I wouldn't have guessed they were edible. I had one a couple of years ago, and I thought the grandkids had left a soccer ball out. They get big!

I've never had one. I heard they were good.
