Thanks, guys. This will hopefully be a foot in the door to a full-time teaching gig in the fall.

Oh, and in two months teaching, I'll be making what I make at the hospital in five months.

Best of luck in finding what it is that will make you happy. It can be a difficult quest, but is well worth it!

Well, teaching is my chosen profession and is what I've done my whole career. I took early retirement from Ivy Tech because they were about to start chopping the professors at the top of the food chain. The hospital secretary gig was just a temporary layover that lasted too long. It will be good to get back in the classroom.

great news Snap...and bless you for not teaching that common core crap!
The nice thing about algebra is that you really can't bastardize it too much. If I get a permanent job in a lower grade, I may have to bow to the common core crap, but I'll also throw in some Snap style.

Yeah, the Mrs. is teaching "decomposition" to kindergartners. The have to understand that 12 is one set of ten, and two more. I get confused when she tries to explain it to me.

I don't have a problem with teaching that to get an understanding of the concept, but at some point you have to just "do the math" and be done with it.

Yeah, I get they need to understand the concept that 10's are in there. But I agree, once you've grasped the concept, it's time to just do the math and move on.

I'm sure in 30 years all of the scientists will be wasting most of their time decomposing all of their equations in to groups of 10 prior to doing any calculations.
