Water heater spontaneously started working again. Doesn't inspire much confidence.

No hot water for 2 days and now it's scalding.

I wouldn't trust it either. That's weird.

Gas. Pilot light was on, but burner wouldn't fire. Likely faulty thermostat/gas control module, which is almost the cost of a new heater.

**** it. New heater. I figure take the hit now when I'm already breaking the bank and then hopefully one less thing to worry about later.

Had the same issue with the unit at the daughters house next door. Pilot strong...no main burner. New control valve almost as much as the entire unit. Replaced and walked away.
