Memorial Day weekend is hard. I knew far too many good friends and shipmates who are now lying under those little flags.

    Executive Mansion,
    Washington, Nov. 21, 1864.
    Dear Madam,
I have been shown in the files of the War Department a statement of the Adjutant General of Massachusetts that you are the mother of five sons who have died gloriously on the field of battle. I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.

    Yours, very sincerely and respectfully,
    A. Lincoln

Ok, going to be a interesting night(weekend). Verdict is in. Officer Brelo found not guilty on all charges. Hang on people, this might get ugly.

    No, no you are not.
I find myself thinking of those I have known and lost.
We need to be reverent of those lost on this day.

The first decade after I got out, I went out for ceremony, put on a happy face.
Then I went home, closed the shades, and sat in the dark.

    I'm mostly better.

From my personal experience observing those people from the military that give the fallen a proper service, their decorum, honor and respect, I have a hard time staying tear free.....even now just thinking about it.
If my uncles were not intered so far away I would be with them right now. I miss them.....terribly.
