I was standing in the workshop at a factory when one guy was moving some stuff around with a forklift. I saw he was about to hit a fluorescent fixture, so I just stood still, closed my mouth, blocked my ears, nostrils and eyes with my hands, and let it happen. Sharp little pieces of glass went everywhere, just not in any of my available orifices. He was a real butthead sometimes. Once he tried to read the temperature of a solder pot with a mercury thermometer. POP. Contaminated the whole thing. I was the one who told him he was to be a grandfather; his daughter wrote a column for a magazine I had a subscription to, and told why she was going to be off for a couple of months. "WHAT ELSE DO YOU KNOW ABOUT MY FAMILY?" he said. He thought I must have been Catholic because I knew the Pope's real name (Karol Wojtyla), like it's some kind of secret. And this guy got to call himself an engineer.
