I probably fall out of the helo and hit my head

That would be better than what happened to the XO.

XO was stateside, I think his wife had a baby. Mission came up, flew XO to Europe to meet us. Helo'd him to the boat.
It doesn't work like it does in the movies.

Helos bob up and down because of wind, heat, etc.
Line suspending the "package" stretches a bit.
This causes the "package" (in this case the XO) to bob up and down.
Sub moves 5 knots or so to maintain steerage.
Helo comes up, XO being dunk into the water, out of the water, into the water, out of the water.
BAM! Right into the Dry Deck Shelter you see on the sub.

    Did he survive?

    Yup. Just banged him up.

Dang officers tend to get roughed up.
ChEng (Chief Engineer, pronounced Cheng) was coming on board with a boat transfer.
Out on the ocean, you have to count the waves. Cause the waves will bring the boat up and down the side of the round sub.
But every so many waves, like the 5th or the 6th, harmonics will cause the wave to go higher.

So ChEng feels the boat he is on pause at the top. So he starts to go over the side.
But, it's the harmonic wave, the boat starts to go up again.
Caught his ankle between the Landing Craft and the Sub.
Thing swelled up like a melon.

    Subs don't have real Docs.
    Only a corpsman.
And the mission meant we couldn't transfer him off.
So he hobbled around for a while.

I can see counting waves with a large body of water. Small bodies of water you cant count the waves because there's not much distance between swells. It's all about timing.
