    Where's the bacon?
i have a comment about the videos....who the f*** wears loose fitting mechanix gloves while in class. how much do you think they would be able to improve their aim or remove the gun from the holster easier with their bare hands. i know i have tried without being under pressure and being able to feel my gun on my skin and be knowledgeable about my muscle/ touch memory is very different versus having gloves. do you think i should train more?

With loose-fitting gloves? Only if you want to be a helpless victim.

To be honest, I could probably do equally well in latex or nitrile gloves as I could barehanded, assuming the gloves fit. After you get used to working in them for long periods of time, it's not a whole lot different.*

yes, i use nitrile gloves every day in the lab and its almost just as nice as bare skin, but without the chemical burn! my point is that its freaking hard to pull your shirt up and unholster your gun and place your finger on the trigger quicklly with gloves like that, not considering the stress. there are just so many things wrong with that video. they obviously had the answer to their study before they did the studying.

States Allow Guns on College Campuses

Utah is the only state right now that already has a policy allowing permit holders to carry guns on campuses of its nine public universities.

If you're interested in which states allow firearms on campus before you go to school or before your child does, check out the short but growing list of states that have bills pending that will overturn the policy banning firearms on university campuses.

The worst case scenario is you would get expelled from school.

It will always depend on the current administration. I think this newly formed web page clearly shows the current belief (and thus the likely action) would be taken if you are discovered:

No Guns on Campus : Emergency Preparedness : IUPUI

The 20/20 videos are a joke. They are totally irrelevant to the issue of an active shooter on campus, unless they are claiming most active shooters on campus are trained cops....because that is who they use as the killer and extras. The guns are _not_ real. They are Glocks designed for the sole use of Simunition rounds. In the videos, the classroom is made up of cops and 20/20 employees....sure there is no bias there. Look at how the one person _always_ runs between the killer and the CCW shooter? Yes, that was purposely done by 20/20, hoping that person would get shot (innocent bystander). They don't let the kids choose were to sit. They don't let them carry their own guns. These kids might not even care to carry a CCW, they just asked some students if they thought they could protect themselves and they said "yea" so they were used. The killer is a firearms instructor. They are asked "It is realistic?" and the girl answers "yea." Well, it isn't. How many of the active shooters were:
#1: Purposely targeting just one person?
    #2: Trained firearms instructors?

A more realistic situation would be as follows:
#1: Get a shooter who is non-LE trained, or doesn't have a very heavy background in training.
#2: Get civilians that are just told one thing: Do whatever you think it necessary not to get shot. That would keep the police officer or 20/20 extra from jumping over the desk (on purpose, to prove the "innocent bystander" will be shot theory). 99% of that class would take cover behind the desk.
#3: The killer shooter would be told to just go in and shoot people at random. The goal is to shoot people, not a particular person, but to shoot until they run out of bullets.
#4: The CCW shooter would be able to pick from numerous holsters and get some practice. In fact, I think the only person allowed to be the CCW shooter should be someone with a CCW license. That way the person is already in the mindset. Give the person some training with the the Sim guns, and then have them be part of the "class." Then allow the class to enter the room, telling people to sit wherever they want. The killer wouldn't know where the CCW person would be sitting.

The current question on the Dean of Students website is: "You are allowed to have a handgun on campus if you have a valid Indiana gun permit." T or F?

The correct answer is False and they write: "Possession or use of a weapon is cause for immediate discipline action including but not limited to suspension."

So now you know have the answer, straight from the Dean of Students.

Here is a rebuttal to 20/20's "If I Only Had a Gun:"

So i'm a student at IUPUI. I won't disclose if i've been concealed-carrying a firearm around campus or not.

As i understand it, a similar 'ban' happened at VT months prior to the incident there. Granted, IUPUI has had this rule in place for some time.
What are the possible repercussions of carrying on-campus? I'm reluctant to ask any of the faculty for fear of being frisked and detained.
are you sure you wont disclose that information? even on accident?

But i didn't. I was implying that if i do ask about it, they'll frisk me 'just to be safe'.

And lord knows, when you don't consent to a search, the police ask why, and everyone thinks you have something *even if you don't*.

Well, they provide an escort service, so my guess is that they will tell you to use that. If you and others want to make a statement, demand personal safety escorts from the PD. If they get swamped with request, to where it hampers their normal functions, it could start a dialogue. If they try to tell you it is OK to use the shuttle services, tell them you want people who are armed to escort you. If they say you are over reacting, get stats about all the robberies on campus and the areas surrounding campus.

Yep. Everybody, every time they are going anywhere, should demand these personal safety escorts.

Traditionally we have held the empty holster protest the week after the VT anniversary. The protest is held all week long and last year we heard no negative reports. The year before there was two "concerned" phone calls.

I am also a college student. I know the feeling of being helpless on campus... Not the best feeling. Because firearms are banned on campus I now carry a pocket knife... I know its not much but I would rather have it than have to fend someone off with an ink pen. There are companies, and I am sure there are others who are more familiar with this, that make alternative weapons for self defense that are less noticeable. I believe there are a couple of key chain weapons and also a few other useful tools. Hope that helps you out.
