I have not had health insurance for 20 years, I have no intention of getting it now. They can just confiscate all my property and lock me up. Guess I would be insured then. :dunno:

You've had health insurance by virtue of your ability to walk in to any ER and not being turned away. Perhaps you haven't used it yet, but tens of thousands of other people did. And taxpayers footed the bill. So ACA may be a huge gift to the health insurance companies, it also means that some insurance company is going to have to pick up the tab when you stagger into an ER, instead of me.

Insurance works by people paying small regular payments when they don't need it, so they can have large payments made when they do. All those kids fresh out of college who go without any insurance for ten or fifteen years makes it all the more expensive when they finally do get a job with benefits.

The point is that end of life decisions about you and your kin are being made FOR you.

If someone wants to spend a billion dollars extending their life for another 2 minutes, that should be their prerogative, and not the decision of a bean counter.

On the flip side, if someone doesn't want ANY care, that should also be their decision.

Socialized medicine removes your power to make your own decisions.

Unless you have the billion dollars to spend, those decisions are already being made for you -- by the insurance companies or medicaid. Whoever is footing the bill is in control.

My brother, sister in law, and their 3 children spent 3 years in Italy. Upon returning to the United States, they were pretty vocal about how disappointed they were to find out about Obamacare. Apparently, even to them (quite liberal), government run healthcare is not their preference.

And in the future, even if you have a billion dollars, that decision will be made for you.

Insurance covers what you pay for. If you want more insurance, buy more insurance. When did we cross over to the point, that we expect infinite insurance coverage for a $10 copay?
