The warnings are there as a defense to be used in court WHEN someone drinks the contents of the battery, not to prevent it from happening. What makes an idiot an idiot is not only the lack of common sense, but the refusal to heed warnings.
Back in the late 1980's I worked for FMC that manufactured all kind of food processing equipment from planting to packaging. One of the engineers told me he was getting a free trip to California to testify in a trial. They made a "root crop harvester" and a worker got killed working on it.
It had two steel fingers that ran under the ground to loosen the carrots, beets or whatever the crop was. then there were two big flat belts that would grab the tops and when they reached the back a spinning knife cut off the top and the crop would fall into the bin. The workers would take off the guards and safety devices so they could clear jams without shutting down the machine. The engineer would go and tell the judge and/or jury he would still be alive if they had left the safety devices intact. Jim.
