Cleaning out some stuff and Mom and Dad's house, we found a receipt for a Sears TV from 1978. 19", color, no remote- $519.95.
I think my first VCR cost $400.
At work, we had "time-lapse" VCR's for the cameras that cost around $1,200.
Funny thing, instead of using the "time-lapse" feature, they were recorded in 6 hour mode, so that they could be watched on a standard $50 VCR.
So, why did we record them on a $1,200 recorder?

TVs used to be a major investment.
Households often had ONE.
Now I hear people say how poor they are.
And I see them with 5 TVs in their house. Cable. DVRs. DVDs. Cell phones. etc.
I just bought a VCR at Goodwill last week for $5. I plugged it into my new 43" Smart TV that I bought for less than $200. Tech is getting cheaper and that's a good thing.

Over Thanksgiving, some of the family was talking about things you don't see or hear anymore. The term "Be Kind. Rewind." was brought up. The kids looked at us like we were speaking in Mandarin Chinese.
After it was explained, I was then able to launch into my speech about how those kids don't know the satisfaction of slamming a phone down when you're mad.
