    You actually think this is funny? Why?

    Probably because he doesn't take it personally. And, because humor is a way of dealing with uncomfortable things. I think people who can laugh at such things are probably better equipped for the tragedies life brings to the living. But if you're over-empathetic--there is such a thing, btw--I can see why it would be offensive.
