Not to justify his lack of finger discipline, but people forget just how new the four rules are. Col. Jeff Cooper's rules were published in "The Modern Technique of the Pistol" in 1991. Police Academy 1 came out in 1984. I'm glad the four rules have become such a widely accepted standard, but it was just a generation ago that people approached gun handling very differently.

The day had finally come and the rancher was driving up with an enclosed trailer with his new stud bull.

His other two bulls were in the corral and as they watched the newcomer exit the trailer they were amazed at the size of the new bull.

One cowered while the other began kicking, snorting, bucking and raising a dust cloud. the first bull said "are you crazy he'll kill you" and the second replied "I just want him to know that I'm a Bull!"
