    Evening everyone

As many of you know you, I decided to leave the gun hobby to pursue motorcycles. I bought my first bike, then a 2nd bike, and passed my riders course which got me my MC endorsement. I'd been enjoying both bikes and had them basically dialed in and set up to my liking. It's been a good time, despite idiot drivers who don't pay attention, especially to motorcycles. The good times began to end for me last Saturday and came to a screeching halt just a few days ago on Thursday night.

Saturday on my way to my daughter's band competition, a car ran me off the road while merging into my lane on 469 at hiway speed. I was not in his blind spot, he never even so much as glanced over before he forced his way over to my lane. Thankfully, I was able to swerve into the center shoulder and avoid being killed. Later that day, while pulling into my driveway, with my turn signal on, another driver decided he wanted to pass me. Again, I avoided an accident by emergency braking.

Thursday evening, my luck ran out with stupid drivers. While on my way home, I was in the process of turning onto a street, when a car cut me off, leaving me no choice but to lock the brakes up, which caused the bike to lay down on me. The 500lb bike landed on my left foot, I then tumbled and landed on my knees and spilled myself onto the street. Thankfully good people stopped, got me help and I took an ambulance ride to the ER. A broken toe, a bruised leg/knee/pectoral were the results. I'm currently in a boot, on crutches, and dealing with a bruised rib. Tues the ortho doctor will determine the repair path for my foot.

The bike took minimal damage. A broken mirror mount, broken off floorboard, and some scrapes/scratches. When we picked it up at the impound, it fired right up. I had my P365XL on me and it's currently sitting in police evidence as they had to take it before the ambulance ride. I get the gun back a week from tomorrow. As for the car who cut me off, it appears they fled the scene and I will be following up with the PD tomorrow to see if they are investigating or just leaving it as a single vehicle crash with no further police work. I have liability only on the bike, so all of my expenses are on me currently. Yes I do have medical insurance. Regardless it's still gonna be expensive.

For an undetermined amount of time, I can't do much of anything. I tried doing some things this morning and my foot swelled up like a balloon, then the wife yelled at me to get my ass on the couch elevate my foot. The crutches suck, my bruised rib makes using them even more difficult.

These pictures make the bruises look wayyyy better than they are. The broken toe is next to the big toe. The foot is bruised under the toes, along both sides, underneath, and on the back of the heel. It felt like the bike tried to fold my foot in half. The knee is swollen and bruised. The chest bruise is from my cell phone in my coat pocket. I think it jabbed me when I fell.

Here is the bike. Again, minimal damages. It's a 2001 Honda Shadow Sabre 1100.

To clarify, I didn't even want to post all of this, because I'm not looking for sympathy, special attention or anything of the sort. I also didn't want to rain on the parade in here. I'm overall bummed and I guess just felt the need to share. I am on the mend, but this took the wind right out of my sail and has really done a number to me mentally. Whether or not I continue to ride will be determined down the road. I'm not ready to make that decision anytime soon. Motorcycles were the only thing I've been interested in for months, so now I'm just drifting in the land of boredom on the couch.

    Get back on that horse.

I write this with ZERO judgement...only some friendly intent:

I had a very nasty bike accident at age 19. Late night, someone turned left in front of me at an intersection where left turns were prohibited. I won't go into all of the details but I flew like superman, landed on my helmet (split down the center) and left wrist (bent all the way back, 2x broken bones, 1x displaced bone, and tendons shredded), somersaulted onto the pavement, and ended up sitting cross-legged in the street with a car screeching to a halt just a few inches from my face.

Several wrist surgeries later, screws in, screws out, MANY hours of PT; I have fairly good mobility in my left wrist and hand.
I was very lucky that the ortho specialist they called in to the ER that night knew what the hell he was doing.

I have ridden several times since just to prove to myself that I could get back on that horse...but I cannot bring myself to ride anymore. It is just not worth it to me. That thrill is G.O.N.E. Especially with a wife and two kids still on my payroll.

I was a very safe rider, but I could not control those around me. I still can't control others when I drive, but I can wrap 2000 lbs of steel around me for protection. I have way more confidence with doors and frame around my weak-azz body.

Today, I get my thrills in other ways that I give me more control over how much danger I am in.
I love speed. I love to race. I have driven dozens of laps at the Nordschleife in Germany (and yes, it really is awesome).
But I will not get back on a bike anymore.

    So why post this?
Two close calls in one day and third incident two days later, that nearly ended you...wow.
I don't know you but...If you have a wife and children that you support...think carefully before you ride again.

In the mean time, while you are healing your body and your mind (accidents like that can shake your mental health as well), take some time to ponder your next steps.

Again, not being judgmental at all...just looking in from the outside.
Take care. I hope you heal well.

    I’m glad you shared.
You don’t have to want our sympathy but you can have it if you need it. Many here care deeply for you.

Pretty wise to just not make that decision soon, imo.

I’m glad you’ll heal and it wasn’t worse.

Just because you had some really bad luck doesn't mean it's going to continue. Time, and chance can happen driving anything.
That's why I say get back on that horse.
But if you really don't want to ride anymore then don't.
That's a choice you're going to have to make.
Make sure it's a decision you aren't going to really regret later on.

Dang, Spicy ..... that's definitely a run of of bad luck. Take care, look into yourself deeply, and the right decision will come along.

Our paths haven’t crossed on this forum yet but I extend my sympathy. I hope you have a speedy recovery and things aren’t too expensive.
