I just checked the ammo prices on 6.5 Grendel, no thanks.
I think I'm in at about $0.80/rd right now on the Hornady, but that was back a few years when I built the rifle. I think now its closer to $1/rd. Wolf Gold makes some that I've shot through another Grendel that's great for plinking.
Steel case is as cheap as .223...

Haven't shot any steel, but I'm sure it'd be fine for a fun gun. Built mine more for precision so I try to use match grade.

Right now I'm shopping for 1911 mags. I need to stay focused. Has anyone ever tried Mecgar 1911 mags?

I've got one Mecgar that seems fine and several Wilson 47D and ETM's that work great. I also have a Chip McCormick that works great. I'd say to buy a couple of the Mcgars and run them and see what you think. If I had the time to run up on Thursday to meet with you, I'd bring some Wilson's for you to test, but I don't think I'll have time this week. :(

That said, it's hard to beat Wilson's or Chip's.

My goal is a longer range precision rig with less recoil than a 308 in a smaller/lighter package, because I'm a pansy. The cheap steel stuff makes the round more versitle to me, for having cheap fun.

When I had 1911s before I would get Chip McCormick 10 round mags for carry and the rest were Wilson 8 rnd. I should probably just do that again. Once I get ten good quality mags then if I want to try our the a Mecgar for range use I can always do that.

I never tried any Chips, I thought the wilsons were OK. I really liked the Tripp's. Felt like a lot better mag and never gave me any troubles, the wilsons bobbled once and I felt iffy after that about them.
