Coming here to be talked out of a gun is like going to a strip club to be talked out of a lap dance.

This guy has got the right idea...

but it seriously I have the 50th anniversary 10/22 and it is great. It's hard to beat for just over 200 bucks. I also have a Marlin Model 60 that's pretty nice, but tube feeding rounds is a pain in the ass.

    Just my :twocents:

I thought it was an INGO requirement to own a 10/22?

the 10-22 has the biggest aftermarket parts market for any rifle.but ,i like to be different.plus the safety is not reversible for lefties.when you make it yours nobody there won't be one like yours next to it in the rack.

Buy a 10/22. If you can't afford it, sell the 597. I used to have a Remington Viper. It became part of the purchase of my 10/22, and that was a great decision.

I had a Remington Viper. The biggest mistake I ever made concerning guns.

Buy the 10/22. It will be your friend for life.

Since you're not telling him, I won't link it.

I have noticed 223 Gunner is always a little proud of his stuff.

I guess that may be a fair accusation. But in my own defense, people on this board want you to give it away, so if I were to price it "right", then I would still have someone trying to beat me down on it.
As far as the 10/22 it is much nicer than current production rifles, and has a nice scope on it. And yes it does have the metal trigger guard.
I guess it's just however you want to look at it. If you were to buy a take down model you would pay around $300 for it, so in my mind you are getting a free scope on a much nicer rifle.
I really don't think my current price is unreasonable at all.

My wife and kids love our 10-22 so much I don't get to shoot it much. I put tech sights on it right after I bought it new and other than some extra mags its needed nothing. Buy one, shoot it, enjoy for years.

True story. he is always asking to borrow mine.
    You are one funny duck.

Mine is a late 70's or early 80's model and I will say they feel much more solid than the basic off the shelf current production. If I were looking for another to keep stock, I'd pay a premium for an older one.

    Not far from the tree
I just sold the last of my 22 long rifle guns both 10/22. Ammo dried up a long time ago. Invest in ammo for the guns you have shoot and be happy. Invest into hand loading if you are not already. Things are not going to get any cheaper.

If you got to have a 22 get a upper for your AR or go with a dedicated AR22 like the M&P. Lot easier to clean and swap parts on if needed.
    Ammo is back.

Have had as many as 8 10/22's in the house. Down to 3 or 4 now.

Add me to the list with Chez, then.
The only .22 I've ever owned is my beloved 39A.
    No condolences necessary.:p

Add me to the list as well, I love my Marlin model 60SS with the 22in barrel and 19in mag. It outshoots my dad's and my brother's 10/22s everytime.

I have a 597 with a medium heavy barrel , match trigger free floated and a weighted stock, I can shoot tripple stackers all day,
The only draw back to the 1022 vs the 597 is the amount of after market parts available.

As far as performance the 597 suits me perfect, the guys at the range shooting anshutz 1911's etc are envious
At the performance of my 597.

I posted a short thread years ago proving the performance capabilities of this rifle.
I wish they came in bolt actions..
