    "Federal law prohibits one person from purchasing firearms on another’s behalf except as a bona fide gift" [emphasis added.]

    Yes. As far as I know, it is a straw purchase even if the person you are purchasing for is a legal and proper person. That is, if Mother Teresa (presuming she was a US citizen) asked you to buy a gun for her and gave you the money to do so, that would be a straw purchase!
