There's an app for that. Go on the App Store and look up ccw-concealed carry 50 state guide. Use ccw as your search word and it'll be the first one to come up. The guy that created this site actually has an account with ingo so maybe he'll post the app on this thread if I email him.

A new version will be coming out next week to include the latest Kansas changes, as well as the upcoming Illinois changes, which are expected to be passed on Tuesday (7/9/13), which will turn IL into a shall-issue state (although it will be a Shall-issue state w/ no reciprocity).

    Updated:

This is an update to a previous post. Kansas now recognizes ALL other states' permission slips. (As of July 1, 2013)
One of our members, NIFT, messaged me with a few points of interest, things I had not made note of, such as that while Maine (among others) does not recognize non-resident permits from other states, they do issue their own, and that MD and NJ do likewise, though theirs are very difficult to obtain.

OK, so our LTCH covers us to carry according to the laws of the state we happen to be in in 30 states. How can we carry in the other 20 (if at all?)

(KS, KY, NE, and TN are listed on handgunlaw.us as being "very restrictive" in the issue of non-res permits. By my read, so is RI. The others don't issue non-res at all.)

Do remember that to carry a firearm in these other jurisdictions, their local laws apply. Some forbid carry in places that, to us, seem counterintuitive and even idiotic. Their laws do not have to make sense to us, any more than our own do, we still must follow them or risk fines, imprisonment, and loss of the future ability to lawfully possess firearms.

My thanks to Bob for his bringing this information out.

    Blessings,
    Bill

ETA: I've updated the map Gary Slider gave us as well, to reflect this change. Remember, this is effective July 1, 2013!

Just downloaded & spent some time exploring... looks likea top notch app! A few months ago, my family traveled to Virginia & spent a few hours researching our routes (via WV there, PA back). Had my Utah permit & put all the info into a spreadsheet for a reference the whole trip. This is WAY better!

    Just a quick update:
Our own recognition has not changed since my last posting of this information, however, IL is at least in the process of changing their draconian laws. I thought this was worthy of notice.

So how do you drive through these states that don't honor Indiana permits?

With any firearms unloaded and not readily accessible according to 18 USC 926A

Notwithstanding any other provision of any law or any rule or regulation of a State or any political subdivision thereof, any person who is not otherwise prohibited by this chapter from transporting, shipping, or receiving a firearm shall be entitled to transport a firearm for any lawful purpose from any place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm to any other place where he may lawfully possess and carry such firearm if, during such transportation the firearm is unloaded, and neither the firearm nor any ammunition being transported is readily accessible or is directly accessible from the passenger compartment of such transporting vehicle: Provided, That in the case of a vehicle without a compartment separate from the driver’s compartment the firearm or ammunition shall be contained in a locked container other than the glove compartment or console.

I really appreciate this post! I was unaware that Michigan (and other states) acknowledged our IN, LTCH

    .- ...- --- -.
very informative, I did not know there were other states honoring our permits.

Yep. But be aware that when in another state that is reciprocal with IN, you have to follow the laws of that state. For example, some states that honor IN LTCH do not permit open carry as we do. Some will allow carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol, but you can't sit at the bar. Best to do thorough research before you travel with your carry piece. Handgunlaw.us is a great research tool. They have links to the various state's actual codes and you can read them for yourself.

Don't depend on hearsay or other people's opinions. It's not worth going to jail and losing your EDC. You'll find a lot of states aren't nearly as liberal with gun laws as IN is.

By the way, if KM9X is a callsign, 73's !!

    Entire post removed as irrelevant.

For those who didn't see it, I called WV Attorney General's office today (12/19/13) and was told that they recognize an IN LTCH... As a courtesy, I PMd Gary to let him know, and found that apparently, I was told wrong by someone in that office.

I despise being lied to. I don't know that that's what happened, but if not, the only other explanation I can think of is that the person who answered my question is just incompetent.

I suppose I should not be surprised at incompetence in government, but dammit, when you are responsible for giving correct answers to people who are trying to stay on the right side of the law, you bloody well better be competent at your job.

I'm going to take a few hours to calm down and then decide if I want to let the AG know that his staff includes a person who probably needs this mentioned on her next review. I probably won't, because I hate to see anyone lose a job, but I'll probably write to let him know she is in dire need of a wake up call as to the importance of the job she has.

    Blessings,
    Bill
