    Not sure if you're familiar with it, but the battle of Taffy 3 is considered by some to be one of the most one sided battles in WWII
    I am familiar with the USS Franklin. I had to look up Taffy-3. Looks like it was part of the battle of Leyte Gulf and also called the Battle Off Samar. Pretty interesting as the US forces were badly outgunned but did fairly well under the circumstances.

    The USS Franklin took a kamikaze and battled fires for hours and hours. The men in a steering space were isolated, steering the ship even though they couldn't be rescued for 17 hours.

    I was going to insert another jeep carrier, and tell the story of men stuck in the steering space.
    So it would be fiction, but in a battle that happened.
