I was leaving a buddies house in Paoli this evening and almost smoked a BIG black animal. It came from the left side of the road, it looked like a black mountain lion. It was moving with a purpose. It was not running but walking quickly and with reason. It almost walked right into the side of my van. It was dark out. It was most definitely not a cow or horse. I haven't ruled out a dog but it looked and moved very catlike. I couldn't get a great look at its head/face as it was dark and the only light was from my headlights to the side of the vehicle and a little bit of headlight coming from the opposite direction.

Are there mountain lions in Indiana and are there black mountain lions? It might explain the couple piles of bones and hair we found on my buddies property.

There have been mountain lion sightings in central and southern Indiana increasing over the past few years. Also wild boar reports are occurring frequently and some farmers are having such bad luck with them that they are offering private hog hunts.
Last I heard they were concentrated around southern Indiana more. Either way it'd be nice if they did make a comeback.

Unless you are out hunting and he decides you would make a nice meal. :dunno:

I'm sure it wasn't a boar. It was taller, longer, and more slender/toned

I don't live all that far from Paoli and my oldest brother ran a logging business prior to his death. He swore that on one of his trips into the woods he came upon a Panther. He was not a kind of guy that made things up or joked around, if he said it was true, I believe him.

These big black cat sightings pop up quite often. I know I've seen confirmed reports of mountain lions and people that have said they've personally seen them. I've also personally seen wild pigs--I think it would be highly unlikely to confuse one for the other, even at night.

The more I read online, the more I am believing that I'm not crazy. Haha. There have been quite a few reports of big cats that were black in Indiana over the years. Hmmm.... I'm gonna have to talk my buddy into getting a couple trail cams set up around his property.

I am 100% sure that it was not a cow, horse, or pig.

Dad worked at one of the local surface mines for 25 years. On the night shift, over the years he worked there, the mobile equipment operators had many sightings of big black cat like animals.

One of my buddies' neighbors caught a black panther on his trail cam in Hardinsburg, IN, which isn't all that far from Paoli.
