    Does anyone know if you would be required to call the police and report this incident? Or not because you found the bullet. Just curious. Scary stuff! Glad no one was hurt.

    Wouldn't this be akin to calling the police because you realized, on your way home, you exceeded a speed limit or missed a stop sign? There's nothing to prevent you from doing so, but I wouldn't unless somebody else's property was damaged or somebody got hurt.

    The lesson here is that your friend should be more careful and follow the four rules

    Additionally, we all learned that he should have bought a Glock because Glocks are for beginners and advanced firearm owners

    First of let me preface this by saying I live and die by the 4 basic rules of gun safety, and it was NOT me who performed this negligent action.

    The Story:

    Last night, a gun enthusiast (just starting out) was over for a cookout. We were chatting about guns as always and I was showing him my collection. He had his Springer 1911 on him, and I wanted to take a look at it as it's new. He empties the gun, mag and all, hands it to me. (I know, shouldn't be doing show-n-tell with a holstered gun, but we're being safe and the gun was always pointed in a safe direction). I check the gun out myself, as I trust NOBODY but me, and it was all clear. I was checking out the fit and finish, and the action. It was very nice.

    Well, fast forward a few minutes later. He takes the gun back from me, inserts the mag, cocks it and proceeds to show me how to DECOCK the 1911. :n00b:
    He slowly places his finger on the hammer and pulls it back, THEN with his finger on the trigger, he pulls it. BOOM! What was he thinking!? Trying to put a SAO gun into a DA mode?!

    The aftermath was brutal. We were in my kitchen when the ND happened. Luckily, thankfully, everyone else was outside on the patio. The 230 grain Speer Gold Dot went zinging through my kitchen wall, through the drywall behind and in front of it. It proceeds to HIT my COLD WATER line going to my water heater! It hit it dead center (copper pipe) and kept going. Proceeds through the drywall in my laundry room (were the water heater is) and into the dry wall in my bedroom bathroom. Hits an open linen closet door and proceeds into another interior bathroom wall. Out that bathroom wall and it enters into my bedroom drywall, then stopped when it hit my open bedroom door.

    This bullet went through 6 walls and a thick copper pipe, it was devastating. If it would have hit one inch to the left of the water heather, it would have been a gas pipe erupting (exploding) instead of water spraying everywhere.

    I immediately shut off my water after the ringing started and adrenaline kicked in. I had some VERY harsh words for my friend, suffice it to say. Things like;
    "WHAT THE FU** WERE YOU THINKING?! IT'S A SAO FIREARM, WHY ARE YOU EVEN ATTEMPTING TO PUT IT INTO A DA MODE? He's now NOT allowed to bring a firearm in my house, and I told, NEIGH, I IMPLORED him to seek training and brush up on his gun knowledge. He will be doing repairs for his damages, and good thing for him he's a plumber. I know what I learned from this, but I can only pray he does too.

    I know this could all have been averted had I not asked to see his firearm, but really, I think he would have wanted to show me at some point anyhow. The harm came from AFTER I handed a completely safe firearm BACK to him. He's got a lot of work ahead of him, repairs and gaining of knowledge are now his top priorities.

    Sorry for the novel, just wanted to share. It was 'effin scary, I'll tell you that. And a gun, shot inside a house, IS THE LOUDEST thing ever. I'm glad nobody was hurt and I'm glad he feels like a piece of trash right now (no offense but he should feel that way, it was a potential tragedy).

    1st Glad no one was hurt

    2nd As I read this post, I kept glancing at your Avatar and though I'm sorry this happened to you and am glad everyone is uninjured... I couldn't help but envision your avatar in a rant telling me this story as I read it :):

    You should tell this to the INSTRUCTOR of the non-res Utah carry classes who RECOMMENDS this type of carry with a 1911.
    Crazy stuff out there, peeps. Be careful, campers.
