But that would never receive the same type of reaction. Reagan had a hand in the program, as did Bush and Clinton...but if I can't bang my fists on the table and rant about Obama, I'm just not happy.

    Not to worry...

Should Romney get elected and unless he can manage to reduce all descretionary spending to about 1919 levels, there'll be plenty of fists banging on tables and wookie suited INGO members running around conference tables decrying his big-government statism around here to fill the void.

I guess I don't follow politics or get a stiffy from what I follow to understand the stupid wookie comments. I follow (read political news) and base my opinions off of that. Idiots from all parties annoy me and I find them hard to take seriously.

Well hell, for that matter I have a whole skid of paper just waiting to be printed on.

    Send uncle sugar my way!!!!

That kind of crap needs to stop.

I'm not paying taxes so the government can give out freebies from "its" largess.

I have a friend who's in the prepaid cellphone and phone card business. He was telling me the other day that he was in Chicago recently distributing these phones out and was complaining about the dregs that came and got them. He'll never see the irony in his complaints.

If I'm not on the internet complaining about welfare entitlements, I'm probably at work securing a government contract, shooting at the public range, hunting on public lands, biking the public trails or attending tax payer funded sporting events.

Federal spending alone in 2011 was $3.7 trillion. Divide that by 320 million people and you get over $11,000 spent for every man, woman, and child. How many middle classers are paying out over $11,000 in federal income tax, ss, fica, medicare, etc?

How much are our state and local governments spending for every man, woman, and child?

Coming from another college student, I don't feel bad for you and your 21 hours...7 classes and not getting a Pell Grant to cover it. They won't cover it even if that woman wasn't getting her Obama phone. You'll get a maximum of $5550 per year and you can try to get it for 6 years. If you were part time last year (anything under 12 hours) you've been pro-rated. Even though you're taking 21 hours and if you were a minority/woman/low income, you wouldn't be getting 21 hours paid for by a Pell Grant. At my school, your Pell Grant would be 100% blown (possibly with a need for you paying partially for your books) in 1 seemster with 21 hours. That isn't including parking/lab fees/technology fees/other things most students don't use but pay for anyway. Also haven't met too many program chairs that would allow a student more than 18 hours because they know about the stress involved.

For starters... I never asked for or expected a Pell Grant to cover all 21 hours. I wouldn't care if NONE of us got a Pell Grant to be honest. I can work my ass off and pay for my own schooling, and I can do it without the aid of the Government or Loans from a bank.

My point isn't about me... its about equality. Had this welfare, Obama phone lady taken 21 hours (or 12) she would be getting a substantially higher amount than $350 + Welfare + Food Stamps + Obamaphone etc... etc... etc....

2nd as far as for me getting to take 21 credits... I had to receive special permission from a Dean who based her permission on my past performance which is stellar. I'm not a in college to slide by... nor am I in college for a free ride... nor do I ask for anyone's sympathy.

However, it chaps my ass that I am stuck in a Robin Hood system that is based on race, gender, class and irresponsibility level.

Because I am a White Male who hasn't spit out a litter of babies, I don't qualify for ****. Regardless of the fact that last year my income was only 20k.

And what is this about $5550? MY PELL GRANT THIS SEMESTER IS $350... You say pay for a semester? I wish it paid for more than 1 book ;)

As to the permission to take 21 credit hours, congrats. As for past performance being stellar, apply for scholarships. Do I think the system is fair? Nope. Do I think there are a bunch playing the system? Yep. I feel your pain (on a smaller scale because of my credit hours...only 15) about money not being there for those that could use it and contribute to society. I find it quite interesting that one of my classes had 41 students the first 3 weeks and now it is down to 34. The majority dropped once they knew they wouldn't have to pay back the grant money. I've seen it every semester. The cost of books is just plain stupid, I no longer buy new books...mostly e-books or rental from online. I do find it funny when people complain about either Obama or democrats when it comes to public aid. If there were more people that cared enough, they'd protest with their votes at all levels. Most would rather just complain. People can argue that all they want but until they stop voting for status quo politicians at all levels, they're not really showing that they're trying to change anything.

We had cell phones when Reagan was in ?

Oh yes. Most were about the size of a brick, although the one I used for work was basically a portable radio transceiver with a battery pack and a handset. Of course, they were either a wealthy man's affectation or a work tool then, but why let reality interfere with a good story?

The voting system is flawed to move us toward socialism. It's a sad fact....

When you look at the essence of voting, you realize that all votes are based on ONE THING.... tax money. I don't care who you vote for or what policy you vote for... you are voting on how tax money is going to be spent. ALL VOTES....

However, no matter what you put into the system... you only get 1 vote. Whether you own a huge business and pay 100k in taxes a year or you live on welfare and RECEIVE $30k in tax money a year... YOU STILL ONLY GET 1 VOTE to decide where everyone's tax money gets spent.

In this system Socialism is inevitable. Not because one person wants us to move that direction, but as more and more people become reliant on RECEIVING tax money, rather than paying tax money... their combined votes will continue to push for more and more socialist policy and once the majority is totally reliant on the government, there is ZERO HOPE to move in reverse IN THIS MAJORITY VOTING SYSTEM.

The "47%" will soon be the 51% and then it will be too late...

    ----------------------------------

The only way to break this broken cycle is to adopt a FAIR voting system... one that is based on how much you put into the system.

Receive more than you put in = 1 voting credit
Put in more than you receive - receive credits proportionate to your contribution (maybe receive 1 credit / $1000 paid in taxes)

Its a flawed system that maybe wasn't originally intended that way... but none-the-less evolved that way and I don't blame politicians for exploiting it.

And there are people who think that "topics" are important in this debate. Romney (the scum that he is) should receive an f'ing medal for saying that 47% will vote for Obama NO MATTER WHAT.... At least he recognizes that his job is to convince the small portion of undecided voters because no matter what he says he isn't getting that ladies vote.

Anyone else feel safe know that THAT lady is driving this country towards a cliff? People ask me who I'm voting for and when I respond that I am NOT VOTING... they ask me why? Well... its because our voting system is completely f'ing broken. Whoever came up with the way we vote for President probably had no idea that they created a system that in the long run would FAIL.

Oh and btw... I wonder how much her phone cost the government? I'm curious since I am a college student who is breaking his neck this semester taking 21 credit hours (yep 7 classes) and just found out today that have received a WHOPPING $350 this semester from the government to cover my costs.

21 credit hours and $350... the rest will be coming out of pocket. I wonder if I was a low income, minority, female on "fool stamps" from Cleveland how much my ****ing Pell Grant would have been? Maybe I could have gotten one of them there fancy smartphones myself.

I can't wait until this place burns down to the ground so we can all go back to being equal

rep inbound... I hear you, I have the same problem with school. I'm only taking four classes but it's still 12 credit hours. Plus work full time and have two children. But I have to take out student loans to help pay for school because after monthly bills there isn't anything left. Now if you want to talk about a system that is broken, talk about student loans. That's a f**king scheme right there.

Listen. I don't know what your major is, I assume it's not some pansy-assed liberal arts degree like French Renaissance Poetry, but I was married with three children and was an engineering major. Electrical engineering, then changed to computer engineering. Started at Purdue, West Lafayette, finished at Michigan State University because that's where I could work making a living while going to school. And I, too, could only take three classes at a time because I was working 56 hours a week. In addition to having three kids, I put my wife through nursing school at the same time.

Zero student loans. I was Dave Ramsey 20 years before before anyone knew who Dave Ramsey was.

You know what? Life wasn't always easy. Suck it up. Stop being a *****. I took my youngest daughter with me to school sometimes. She was four years old. I was in theory of matrices or artificial intelligence or CPU/bus design. She was behind me in a chair coloring. Your profs will not kick a four year-old out. They actually like it.

The current entitlement generation makes me ill.

It's sad to think these people vote. And she will cancel out my vote. ..........

Here is something to make you feel better...............

Last night after a late football practice I took my son to Arby's to get a bite to eat.

I pull up to the drive thru and we are chatting about practice and I begin to wonder what is taking so long with the car in front of us.

The system you describe is exactly what lobbies are. People with lots of money buying favors from the government. (ya I am that jaded)

"Government is the great fiction through which everybody endeavors to live at the expense of everybody else."

Our founding fathers were smart guys and they could not devise a system which limited federal power for very long.

Well, I think that if anyone is deserving of "fool stamps" it is her.

She and her ilk are why the founders created a republic and not a democracy.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship."― Alexis de Tocqueville
