So, was it intersting, intrasting, or maybe interesting??? Inquiring minds want to know.

Ach! I let a spelling mistake slip. I'm surprised no one had caught it yet. Yes, it was interesting. Talking to the police shirtless in a motel room doorway, at least I'm living up to my white trash roots.

Is this a national chain hotel or a small place on the side if a state road that is now used as extended stay hotel? Some shady people at those. I understand their concern but also feel the officer went too far, but it may have been SOP in MS

]My job is all travel, and I'm staying in a motel-style extended stay hotel (southern Mississippi). I had a knock at my door a little while ago, and check the peephole to see someone in a police uniform standing there. I tell them to wait a bit and put on my pants (I skipped a shirt due to a brutal sunburn), and open the door to find a local officer who's there to do a 'welfare check'. Apparently, the front desk staff was a bit 'concerned' by a few packages I received today, which were parts for the AR-15 I'm currently building. So, I explain my situation, answer a few questions, show her my driver's license and Indiana handgun license. She calls in my license number, everything seems in order, she takes my picture (after I put on a shirt), and she takes a picture of my AR. After all this, I went to the front desk to let them know that everything checked out, and that the police had spoken to me. The desk clerk was a bit embarrassed, but apparently it's some sort of policy they have. So, anyone else have an experience like this before?

I have no clue why an officer would feel the need to take a picture of either you or your gun. If I was in your situation, I'd give the local sheriff a friendly call asking for an explanation.

My guess is the officer (SHE) wants a date; and maybe a range trip ... LOL ... no sorry I got nothing else. ... just bad comedy this morning.

    Not interesting, infuriating.

It was none of anyone's business what your packages were.

Call management/corporate, have that little front desk bimbo's job on a platter. None of her business and she wrongly called the police on you. Make. Stupid. Hurt.
File a complaint about the picture taking and grand tour that the officer seemed to demand with the local PD.
Get to a different hotel ricky-tick. This seems crazy shady.

You should have posed naked for her with your AR for the pictures. You could have had the pistol grip covering, well, the pistol grip. ;) That's probably what she really wanted.

Not gun related but here's an interesting hotel story:

Back in the late 80s/early 90s, I was on a a business trip to Pontiac MI. The evening previous to the incident, I left a wake call request with the front desk. As often happens though when I travel, I didn't sleep good that night and woke up early. I decided to go ahead and get a shower and get ready for work.

While I was in the shower, i heard the phone ring. Thinking they'll figure it out, I disregarded it and continued on with my business. About 2-3 minutes later I heard a knocking at my door. Again, thinking they'd figure it out or it was somebody at the wrong room or whatever, I continued on.

But then the knocking got louder and a bit more intense. So now I'm thinking the hotel must be on fire or something, I got out of the shower and made myself decent and checked the dooe. When I saw the relief on the two hotel staff members, it dawned on me...it was Pontiac, MI and Dr Kervorkian was still in business.

I never did go back and check to see if that particular hotel was one of his sites but I could understand the hotel's apprehension.

Realistically, folks have very little, if any privacy left. However, as you described the incident, there were two clear violations of your civil rights. I would inquire as to what became of the photos.

Think the Las Vegas domestic terrorist's murders/suicide had any effect on the thought process of the hotel personnel? See something, say something?

I've had packages arrive previously with poor labeling that didn't have my name on the outside, so they were opened to check the invoice. Also, today's packages included items from 'Tactical Deals' and 44Mag.com. Either way, I'm on great terms with everyone on staff I've actually met. In all honesty, the officer seemed about as confused as I did during the interaction.

Well the motel calling the cops was a bit out of line, particularly for an extended stay type place where you get to know the staff. The staff should have said something to you directly if they had any concerns. I would be moving NOW as who knows what they will do inside your room while you are gone at work. They have already been snooping by checking out your packages.

Equally concerning is the poor labeling by the people you are buying from. Either you did not communicate with them accurately or they screwed up. In addition I want my tactical items shipped just like my porn, in a brown paper wrapper with no indication of my particular fantasies.
