Tuesday while I was out and about making deliveries to my normal customers, I had just finished up unloading about 1/3rd of my truck at a liquor store located to the northeast of Indy and was sitting in the truck waiting for my palm pilot to update the just closed invoice when I spied a Smart Car.

Now I always take notice of these diminutive tiny things because any car that's door is almost 75 percent of the vehicle is something I worry about, because something this small will barely be larger than the bumble bee that gets impacted on the windshield.:D

So sitting across the street located in another businesses parking lot I stared down this overgrown matchbox car on steroids and began a chuckle that rumbled into a good laugh.

My helper who was sitting next to me looks at me :n00b: and worries because he has no idea what I'm laughing at.

I point at the car and say "Looooook" and the kid joins in on the laughter with me.

Just how often does someone who owns something and proud of it, also see's just how comical it can be to others looking at it?

    So here it is..........

The Smart car as it sits across the street.

The economics of the Smart make it a horrible car in MY opinion.

If you're after fuel efficiency, you can do better. If you're after safety + fuel efficiency, you can do better. About the only thing that the Smart "does" that others don't is being like the 2nd smallest car on the American roads today. (there's a newer 100% electric City Car or something that's smaller)

You can get a brand new tiny Kia base model for less money. And you could fit 4 people in it.

Oh well; just like firearms; buy what you want!

There's a Mini Cooper in the parking lot where I work and it has a bumper sticker that says, 'Actual Size.' Pretty clever.

Personally, I hate the smart cars. I've yet to figure out anything smart about the darned things. I understand wanting better fuel economy, but the laws of physics are against that car being safe sharing roads with normal cars, trucks, trees, etc.

I suppose they're safer for the other person who hits them as it'll crumple up even smaller to the point where it might, I dunno, scratch the finish or something.

There is a place in this world for smart cars and the like. It is however not on the Interstate Highway with semi's.

It may sound like discrimination but when you drive something that size you need to keep to your own kind, sort of like bike gangs do ride together for safety.
