soooo.... if I looked at getting an STI Spartan, what kind of mags, holster and such would you guys recommend?

Get the Spartan, a Smith and Alexander magwell
    Wilson Mags or MetalForm mags
BladeTech holster (KyTac is nice but the wait is forever)
    (CompTac is good too)
Safariland 773 mag pouches at least 4 (I have 5)

200gr lead semi wadcutters, 4.2-4.3grs of Clays and you are ready to run

If I were going to go and buy a 1911 for Single Stack I would get one of these
CZ-USA -> DAN WESSON Pointman Seven

I would add an Smith and Alexander Magwell and get some skateboard tape for the front strap.

You can find these on gunbroker and gunsamerica usually under $1100.

Damn Jake, that gun is pretty sweet. I like that it's a .40 too, been looking at them on gunbroker.

I'd recommend the Techwell system over the S&A magwell.

    Techwear USA | Techwell System

It's much easier to install, and it doesn't need to be blended to the frame like an S&A does. There's also different sizes to suit the game you play. I'll second the grip tape on the front strap. I like that a lot better than checkering, and it's a helluva lot cheaper.

I've been resisting the large magwells on my guns. I suppose I'd just have to get used to them. I've been thinking about getting a new SS gun also. There are a bewildering number out there. I've thought about buying a Wesson or Springfield and having it retrofitted or just buying the gun from STI, Nowlin, Baer, etc, built the way I want. I've retrofitted a Norinco and a Kimber. I'm thinking next time, I'll buy it the way I want it.

What would be a good 1911 .40 pistol for shooting single stack?

Is there a common or standard gun used by many competitors, kind of like what the Glock 34 is for Production?
A lot of pro's still shoot the .38 super, I am a big fan, although, I do not own one yet... this cal. is often overlooked...:twocents:

To score major for USPSA single stack division it has to be .40s&w or 45acp.
38 super and 9mm are scored minor.
You get more rounds 10+1 compared to 8+1 for major.

.38super (supercomp) is still popular in open division

Very, very nice Jake. Soon as it warms up, let's meet at one of the ranges. Bring along 4-500 rds for your new blaster and I'll take it out for a test drive.

I got my Kimber Single Stack used on the Enos forum, and it had the medium Techwell on it. It worked really, really well, but I thought it was just hideous. I traded it for the Carry size Techwell, and although it isn't quite as fast it looks just like an S&A, which I find much more aesthetically pleasing. You also have to be careful with those closed-front magwells that your basepads aren't too long. I got an old CMC Shooting Star mag stuck and had to lock back the slide and push it out through the ejection port. Would've been a huge problem if it had happened during a stage.
