Sig 220 Questions

I picked a Sig 220 instead of growing my collection of Glocks with a .45.

Any input on the best ammo for it to shoot or other gear?

update: My 1911 is not talking to me at the moment!

Best ammo? 45 ACP. You might get misfires if you use a different cartridge size.


In all seriousness, an SRT kit and a 17 or 18 lbs mainspring would be my first add-ons.

Mine does not like Remington 230gr JHP ammo.

It eats WWB JHPs, PDX1s and Hornady ammo just fine.

The Skeeves on the Remington seem to be a little sharper than the other brands. All it did was make it a little harder to load in the mag but it fed and fired them just fine. I just avoid it in that gun now for that reason.

I have become very fond of Comp-Tac holsters. I would recomend picking one up for your P220.

Other than that mine has gone well over 1.5k rnds with not even the first hint of a hiccup.

Oh and PS. That tube of grease that comes with it, you may want to look into picking up some of that stuff. It really does work wonders.

Recommend the Comp-Tac holsters. Still have one for a Sig 229. Great holster. Their dual mag carriers in Kydex are excellent. Both of the individual carriers are tension adjustable.

You may have to hunt around to find the appropriate .45 load that works the best in the pistol. That's the fun of having it.

It gets worse. After you shoot your Sig YOU won't be talking to your Colt. Have both. Haven't shot the Colt in years. Very nice pistols. Mine needed nothing.

My Sig 220 will eat any .45ACP ammo I feed it.

Holsters, you know best the types of Holsters you like.

Like was mentioned above, you are going to have a hard time wanting to shoot the Colt after the Sig...

I've got an older, late 80's West German 220. Eats anything! Is also more accurate than any of my 1911's except the Les Baer.....

I agree with Jeremy. My old P220 would shoot anything. ANYTHING.

Another tip is to make sure you keep the rails oiled. Sigs work better when wet. Definitely not as tolerant as a glock

My brother bought a Sig 220 after the LA Riot. It ate everything we put in it without any problem.

If its anything like my P226 it will eat anything, and I haven't had the desire to shoot my 1911 since I broke my Sig in either.

My P220 eats anything I feed it. Never had a problem. Have owned it since '89.

My 220s have never exhibited any issues regarding ammo choice. I usually use Winchester (white box for range, Ranger or PDX-1 for carry), but I've also used Remington, S&B, and Herter at the range when the local Meijer is out of Winchester.

Mine shoots any .45 ammo I feed it. I only buy 230 grain but it doesn't matter what brand I buy.
