I agree, especially if your neighbors (undesirables) dont know how to fish. They may come by for the (neighbor bait!) remnants and you have 150-200 lbs of meat for as little as 6 oz of fish guts!

I grew up in Michigan by the St. Joe river. we never threw the carp back because there was this old african-american dude (somewhere between 60 and 3000 years old) that always asked for them.

I'm pretty sure that guy is still there and we did the same with ours and a lone flathead while walleye fishing recently.

My son and I built some of these minnow traps to catch bait. Seems like a good post SHTF thing to make once all the stores are bare. Most of the items can be found laying along roads or in junk piles! Plus my son has one more survival skill.
