Just in case some don't know...... a similar discussion popped up on another forum, (I searched here, and didn't find it)......

Per a phone call I made to the BATF, they measure a shotgun barrel by inserting a measured 18" dowel down the bore and resting it against the face of a closed, cocked bolt. If the 18" mark is visible, they confiscate the shotgun, and send it to their tech center for precise/legal measurement.

None of you kids rememer the days of air shocks, jacked up rear bumpers and cops with tape measures, do you?

18" barrel length AND 26" minimum overall, neither can be less in Indiana. So while they measure the barrel length from a closed bolt or action, never forget the 26" OAL requirement.

If the barrel is 18" but the gun is under 26" you just made an SBS and you are in deep ****. Pretty mcuh a non issue on a pump as it is hard ot be under 26" with an 18" barrel, but be careful on a SxS.
