I have a lot of 1911's.... That does not make me an expert thou(whoever dies with the most toys wins!) but Springfield is hard to beat as far as reliability and fit and finish. Plus the finish on their guns seems to be a little tougher than most(RO Champion or Compact) (less likely to get scratched up as easy). But if you want to keep the cost down and want to buy new don't count out the guns from the Philippines... I have a American classic amigo and a MAC and love them both... Neither guns have ever FTF and pretty damn accurate ... Hope this helps... just my two cents...
