There are a few direct hits you will feel. USDA is cutting 6000 inspectors which will cut supply in just about every food you buy. When it can't be inspected, food isn't produced therefore demand - and prices - go up.
Air traffic controllers also furloughed - could be some serious waiting at airports.
The worst of it is the DoD takes the biggest hit. No funding for training and deployment means your sons and daughters that are on deployment right now will stay on deployment (likely) until something changes.
NOA takes a hit too, weather satellites that were due to be replaced this year - past their service life - will not be replaced. Early warning systems and weather predictions over seas for battle plans fail - again military takes a higher risk.
There are rippling affects all over. It's a crime what they're doing to the military. Pay raises for the military were put on permanent hold. They don't make anything already, yet they help fund congress's inept performance of their jobs.
This ^^^^
This is a big deal folks. It's Regan's trickle down effect, but instead of econ. it's jobs!
The budgetary cuts, mean job cuts. In an economy where we still have high employment this will only further it. Not to mention, we are trying to end war and cut DoD spending. this means returning soldiers will be discharged, downsized, and put back into an already stagnant civilian workforce where everyone is looking for jobs. Sequestration will only compound all of the issues we already have.
This is NOT what our country needs. The republicans are right to not raise taxes, but this is not a good answer either. Dems. always think that getting more tax money justifies more spending. They don't know how to be frugal. Socialism doesn't work, because you can't keep spending everyone else's money when everyone doesn't have any. We have too many people on the Govt. teet already. We need to ween them off. It's time this country gets it's ***** together.
Much ado about nothing.
The libs are going out of their way to create panic over these "cuts". The amount of money being cut could easily be absorbed by the federal government if they simply looked for programs that duplicate themselves, etc. The laundry list of what will be effected by this is just a scare tactic. They aren't going to shut down six airwings, all of the rolling stock overseas, etc., etc. They will threaten layoffs and furloughs but they will not last very long. It is all about creating public fear in order to force Republicans to cave into their desire for more taxes. The libs have proven again and again that they cannot be trusted with the truth. Why should I believe them this time?
But just to be on the safe side I had better get some cookies.
There you go! F!@# the military!!!
You sir are part of the problem. Apparently you don't have any family serving. Those that are serving are glad to pay for YOUR inept congress. F*(& the military.

Does that mean you are willing to take a 20% cut in pay with us?

Well put! A lot of big talkers here when they are not the ones loosing money when they did nothing wrong, only show up to work a full 8 hours everyday!
Who is "us"?
This smacks to me of the same attitude of entitlement that so many welfare folks adopt.
I work at the pleasure of my employer. He can fire me any time he wants.
Public employees are no different. THERE IS NO RIGHT TO HAVE A GIVEN JOB. THERE'S NO RIGHT TO ANY JOB.
Period.
You hitch your wagon. Best be sure you trust the horse you hitch it to.
Find another job if you don't like it.
That's what I'd have to do if I couldn't stomach a 20% pay cut (which, thanks to trying to live modestly, I could probably do, but with great inconvenience).
Lots of folks lost jobs already. They also have to find other jobs-- get new or better skills, move, sell stuff whatever it takes.
Not sure what makes anyone else so special that economics shouldn't apply to them.
