I have a possibilty of acquiring either a Glock 32 or 33 in Gen 3 (Old THP duty issue) and was looking for opinions on the .357 Sig round itself. Any opinions good or bad about the .357 Sig round? Thanks.
I had a glock 33 for awhile. Awesome little package that packs a big punch. Both would be easy to control but if you have big hands go with the 32 since it has the bigger grip area. I was able to find 50rds of .357 sig for $18 before the panic, don't know what they go for now but that would be a big deciding factor, unless you plan on reloading for it. Plus you can always buy a .40 barrel to convert if you wanted too.
They say that the round replicates a .357 mag out of a 4'' barrel. With any short barreled gun you are going to loose some energy, but with a full mag I think it is more than enough
I'd get the 32 over the 33. I find a two-finger grip disorienting.
As for the .357 Sig, it's not cheap, but has a good reputation. Think of it as a 9mm Luger "magnum."
You don't need a "conversion" barrel to shoot .40-- just drop in a Glock 23 barrel and presto, it's essentially a Glock 23.
My problem with .357 Sig is that lack of bullet weight options. Almost everything is 125gr. Hornady makes a 147 load, but I think that's the only 147gr factory option.
Compare that to a .40 that offers everything from 135gr to 200gr.
That said, the existing loads for .357sig can get pretty stout. Underwood has a 1450fps load for 125gr that is essentially a duplicate of .357mag in that weight (as the .357 Sig was intended to be all along). Most factory loads for .357sig fall in the 1300-1350 range.
