Today we did the Javelin live fires.. We only got to shoot 3 because one was a belly flopper! It went out 20-30ft and hit the ground, we called EOD, a few guys stayed back with it, and the rest of us came back to base.

lol, do the duds really do that? im assuming you just run!?! or is there no cause for concern due to no impact?

yea, they really do that! i was first hand witness today! the javelin has to travel 65m before it arms itself and ours only made it about 30ft because the flight motor didn't kick on. needless to say there was nothing to worry about, and all of us ran! haha

Does the French model shoot out BAGUETTES? :)

That would make me crap my pants.

Does it bother you to have a high explosive next to your head like that? I'd rather bungie jump off a high bridge, I think.

I believe the French model does... for an extra fee to the manufacturer of course.

And no, it doesn't bother me... if I'm not holding that I'm sitting in a Bradley full of 25mm armor peircing rounds, 25mm hi explosive rounds, 7.62 rds, and a tow missile just outside of my turret hatch. haha. So says our Master Gunner, it only takes 2lbs of pressure to engage the primer and they're being slammed around in a metal ready box while driving.

One of the biggest thrills my nephew got to do while out on a 'day cruise' on the USS Wasp LHD-1 was to get in , and on top of a hummer and 'sight-in' a TWO missile launcher. It was inside the Wasp, near where they store the hovercrafts.
