Hey guys, I'm looking at a model 10 with a 5" barrel that has good blueing and a square bit, wooden grips. I'm wondering if it's worth $300.

Any model 10 in good shape is worth well over $300. The only place I can find used (police turn in) revolvers available now is J&G Sales which has 4" Model 10s in Vry good cond for $450. And yes, 5" is not super rare but harder to find.

I just bought a model 10, circa 1975, with pinned barrel, in very good condition, and original grips. Paid $425 cash at a gun show. FWIW. Oh, mine was 4" barrel.

That $300 is a very good deal. Sweet shooter and very accurate. An American Classic!

As an interesting side note...(Lord that sounded pretentious) The "death" of the 5 inch Police gun came about at the exact same time we witnessed the "death" of the "Beat Cop"....When an officers job was to "walk the beat" the 5 inch guns were as common as 4 inchers...Motorcycle cops (and Horseback Officers as well) really liked the 5 inch weapons....

After the squad car became the more common mode of transport the 5 inch guns began to be phased out...Just a tad bit tough to get in and out of a car with that extra inch on the weapon....

And now you know...The rest of the story...:):

Is this normal? I don't know if the picture loaded but the cylinder will slide back behind the trigger and up next to the hammer

This should NOT happen--Cyl. stop missing/worn out on the left side of the frame.

So how much should I offer for it sense it's out of time and really loose?

For ME, this would be a $100-$150.00 Model 10.

I have several of them--NONE in that bad of condition..Bill.

Edit: Ref. line #1=The crane may also be bent-how does it 'Lock Up'??

It's not very tight and the cylinder has some play in it as well once I do lock it up.
