    Edit:
Back to on-topic. Dust off all the Cold War propaganda, those days are back....

Where are all my old issues of that magazine about Soviet weapons and tactics... drawing a blank on the name.

    Edit2:
My google-fu succeeded, the aptly named "Soviet Military Power." :)

I imagine the pilot knew his plane was being tracked by the ship's Phalanx

To say nothing of the AN/SPY-1 radar at the heart of its AEGIS Combat System.

As stated...Russkie aircraft buzzing USN vessels is nothing new under the sun.

Kinda like a few years ago when Tu-95s flew off the US west coast and the media went all WHARGARBL...yo Wolf Blitzer, 1980 called they want their story back.

For decades Russian aircraft has flown near and over U.S aircraft carriers , both escorted and unescorted. Cvn-65-1982-1986

Not being a Navy man, I don't know for certain, but I suspect we do the same thing. As one of my grade school teachers would have said, "get under your desk and cover your head. Duck and cover."
