I purchased two Ruger BX-25 mags to go with my son's 10/22. When we get to the range, neither mag would function properly. The rounds would not feed from the magazines. Googling the issue, I found two common responses. #1: Take apart and oil the components. #2: Only fill the mags about halfway for the first few times using them.
Just to be clear, here is the magazine I'm talking about:
Using a Metric 2.5 Allen Wrench, remove both screws and take apart the magazine. It is possible that the innards will pop loose when remove the top half of the mag leaving you freaking out that you don't how it goes together. (Not that this happened to me, it happened to a "friend". ) Don't worry, you'll see how it goes back together.
You don't have to completely remove the screws in order to get everything apart. If you do, the short screw goes to the top of the mag. The long screw goes back in the bottom of the mag.
Here is everything taken apart:
I took the spring and generously added some Rem oil to the side where you can see the "layers" of the spring. The oil will absorb down in there pretty well.
To put everything back together, grab this half of the mag. It's labeled #1 on the inside.
You can see how these pieces fit together.
Piece #3 goes over the "lip" on the end and fits down in the bottom cover of the mag (part #1 from above). You'll uncoil the spring slightly to get it to fit as it does in the picture. Here are the innards assembled and ready for the cover to go back on.
I put 15 rounds in each of the mags and cycled all of them through. The true test will come at the range of course but there were zero issues after doing this. Things moved very smoothly.
