Had a little situation today, and I wanted to get some opinions on it. If you will indulge me, I am going to tell what happened, but not how I reacted, and get some opinions from you guys first. Cool?

So, my wife and I were out for lunch. I was turning south on 31 from County Line, then going to the right to go to Yats. The guy behind was in a rush, and decided that I wasn't moving over fast enough, and tried to pass me, ON THE RIGHT, as I was trying to get over to turn right.

He almost hit me from behind, but I gassed it, and went past my turn, and had to come back. By the time I made it through the parking lot to find a handicapped spot for my wife, the other motorist was backing out of his space, and almost hit me again. I honked, went past him and pulled into the handicapped space.

He roars up, locks up his brakes, pulls up right behind me, blocking my car, rolls down his window and is screaming at me. I get out and ask him what his problem was.

He replies with a string of profanity, telling me that I need to watch where I am going. :dunno: I raise my voice back and tell him that HE almost hit ME so HE needed to watch where HE was going since he was BEHIND me.

His response was another string of profanity, calling me a "fat mother f#%@er" and that he was going to "f#%$ing kick your fat a$$". "Why don't you eat another cheeseburger you fat f$%# before I bash your f^%$ing face in" etc.

So, I am armed, of course, and my wife who is temporarily handicapped is in the car, he has threatened me several times, and my car is boxed in so I can't leave.

How would YOU have responded? Thanks in advance...

Simple. Get your wife and go in Yatz. He isn't going to sit there all day. What's he going to do. He can't affect you in the store unless he follows you. Too many witnesses if he damages your car or confronts you inside I'd just go on. If he's still there when you try to leave, talk to management as you're calling metro. Case closed. Avoidance at all costs.

I would most likely retreat to my vehicle and lock the doors, while grabbing my cell phone to make ready. Then I would assess the situation. If the guy is still blocking me in, I'd call 911. If the guys moves on, I'd keep an eye on him to see where he goes. If he goes on beyond site, I'd cautiously go about my business. If I see him making a loop I'd most likely back out and be on my way to another location to eat while watching him to make sure he doesn't continue to follow.

The primary reason I'd retreat to my vehicle, as your occupied vehicle is treated as an extension of your castle, thus far easier to protect in the view of the law. It also puts a barrier between me and my possible agressor, even if it is a thin barrier (door or glass). This could give me time to pull away if possible, dial 911 and get my wife describing to them what is happening, and time for me to make ready my pistol should the need arise.

Yep, what purple72 said. Too much road rage these days, what's the big hurry? Easier when everyone stays calm and quits being in such a hurry.

    1. :fawk:
    2. Calmly walk around the car and escort my wife into the building, keeping an eye on the unpleasant d-bag as I did.
You time is worth way more than a pissing contest with some schmoe in the parking lot of Yats. No reason to spoil your appetite before going in.
If he gets out of the car...

    Option 1:
    Condition Orange.
Remain in vehicle and call police. Stay aware of the aggressor and be ready to act if necessary, but likely the sight of you making the call will cause the hot head to move on.

    Option 2:
    Condition Orange.
Remain aware of aggressor but do not acknowledge. Exit the vehicle, walk around the FRONT to assist your wife into the restaurant. If he doesn't leave, call police from inside the restaurant.

Losing your own temper and yelling back at the douchebag will only escalate a potentially dangerous situation.

near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
Being armed, I would have never exchanged words with him. Walked away like he didn't exist.

    +1

If you engage him at all, the witnesses will see you get in a shouting match and that is what they will report, or worse you'll be the next youtube sensation.

If you are walking away from the guy and he tries to assault you and you then have to shoot to stop him, THEN that's what you want the witnesses to report.

As hard as it may be, just walking away would be the better path to take. A) More than likely other people saw what happened or at least part of it.
    b) It puts you in the right by at least trying to walk away.
