Reality isn't coming it's arrived. Paul lost, Like it or not Romney won. Winners right or wrong get to set the rules. Children **** and moan when things don't go their way, not adults.
You aren't looking far enough away. In the short term, you are right up to a point, which is that Romney isn't officially the winner until the convention is finished, and it would not have been unreasonable to expect the leadership to treat everyone with dignity and go by the rules as they are/were before the flurry of changes as we go along. If Paul was truly irrelevant and was not going anywhere, they why was all the rule manipulation necessary?
You might consider that the point Prometheus made was that in the relatively near future, the bedrock of GOP straight ticket lever pullers is going to die off and the party has now succeeded at alienating those who otherwise would be the base of tomorrow. As Churchill said of Von Spee's Far East Fleet, it was like cut flowers in a vase, beautiful to behold but destined to die. This appears to be the fate the GOP has chosen for itself.
