I have some of his records. Grew up listening to him on radio. He did some great comedy covers of songs.

    "Yellow Rose of Texas"
    "Old Man River"
    "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song")
    A great take-off on "Dragnet"
    "The Great Pretender"

Also wrote the Contadina Tomato Paste commercial: "Who puts eight great tomatoes in that little bitty can? You know who! You know who! You know who!"

Stan Freberg wrote. produced and performed a HiFi Stereo demonstration album that was distributed with the Grundig cabinet stereos. I still have it somewhere. A mish mash of short studio nonsense comedy recordings that delivered the amazing qualities of stereo to the unfamiliar consumer.

Stan was definitely one of the great radio comics of all time.
I listened to a recorded bit he had done decades ago (wish I could remember the title of the piece), and it had me laughing hard.
No profanity or vulgar material required, just good old wordplay and vocal characterizations.

I listen to him on XM radio. Radio Classics plays his show from the only summer it was on the air. The good humor man parody has made me cry more than once. It's hilarious.

    RIP Stan.
