The only place that keeps your name is the gun store. They'll show that they sold it to you and that you brought it back and then they did whatever they did with it, that's all.

What if they don't show that I brought it back? The gun I returned was a full-auto pistol due to fact the decocker was not working or may have been tampered with. When decocked the gun went into full auto mode. Very unsafe for a user that doesn't know that head of time which of course I didn't and of course it is illegal to own. I got a full refund but not a return receipt. He handed me an envelope with cash in it and the same receipts of purchase. Nothing indicated I returned it. I called him today to let him know I need something indicating that fact. When I asked him what he intends to do with it he told me they shot it and it did not act go into full auto. He said he'd have his gunsmith take a look at it but I don't want my name associated with it. I had taken it to another (my regular and trusted LGS) who tested and confirmed it in their range. I'm beginning to not trust this guy but don't yet want to indicate what shop his running.

Did he give you a sheet of paper that said you returned it? Keep that I suppose. Either way, say it was used in a crime, they would have to prove that you not only gave it to the individual who committed it but that you in some way were aware that that individual wasn't legally allowed to possess it or that you were aware they were intent on using it to commit a crime (I'm not a lawyer, that's my personal uneducated opinion).

I think you're making much ado about nothing.

What Gun Store lets you return Firearms? MOst I've been in have sign's stating "All Firearms sales are Final, No Returns" :patriot:

I believe the gun in question is defective.

DUDE! Relax! There's not going to be any black helicopter or JBT's at your door. You returned a defective gun and got you money (and in cash!). It's done, walk away and don't worry about a form 4473 or anything else. This conspiracy BS about tracing guns to an innocent guy like yourself just doesn't happen in real life (or at least in any rate worth worrying about). If you don't like the guy, just don't go to that store anymore.

If you think the gun is "illegal", so what? you returned it. Quit acting like it's a hard drive full of kiddie porn.

Besides - the F4473 was called in, now you're asking him to not commit fraud by destroying it. (INAL)

You've posted your account on INGO, that resolves you of all liability and INGO threads are admissible evidence in a court of law. (That last part probably shoudn't be in purple...)

Theres no registration in Indiana...am i doing it right?
You're fitting in just fine here at INGO!

Now, when a gun shop ceases operation for any reason, the bound book goes to????
Stepped on myself last time so I'll let someone else answer.

But lets say you have a situation, for lack of a better term we will call it the LUDCO situation and the lgs you deal with is not on the level.

He could resell the gun illegal like and it still shows in his books that you bought it.
Like in most business deals, do them with someone you should trust.

I'm more concerned that there's a form in his possession that has my name, address, DOB, location of birth, SSN.... maybe my credit card number...

Not to say that this could ever happen.

Then why say it? The dealer could also follow you out to your truck, club you on the head and make you squeal like a pig. :mullet:

The BATFE takes possession and stores them in warehouses or basements that flood. (not kidding about that last part)

    Are you a little slow?

Yup, I am slow! I read your post and thought, "WTF is a LUDCO?". Now I remember!

But, as I recall, only he took the fall for his chicanery. None of his customers would indicted, correct?
